Just signed up tonight. Trying to learn my new D5600, this camera has more settings than a computer.
I have been taking pictures all my adult life, mostly of my children and now grandchildren. Enjoy nature also, woods, sunsets ...
First camera Canon AE1 Program, big for it's time. Then my children got me a Cool Pix 100, Great camera out side but lacks a lot in side. Just got the D5600 and love it.

Congratulations on the new camera. Welcome to the forum. The manual is your friend with these DSLR cameras. It is also not a bad idea to get a handbook published by a third party. They often have better more illustrated instruction. I like David Busch's books. I have one for my D700 and 7200. I consider them a good investment. I also downloaded the manual, based on a recommendation here, because the digital version can be searched.

All good info here. :) I have an iPhone with an Adobe PDF app. I put my camera manual on my phone to access during those annoying times I need to reference it when away from home. There's nothing like being out shooting and not knowing how to change a setting. :shame:

I had the Canon AE1 Program as well.
I find it helpful to go through each menu item and try to understand it. Sometimes there is reasonable help in the camera pushing the ? button. I tell most newbies to learn exposure, but you probably have that from your film days. Being a tech guy, I like to reset my new cameras often to force myself to get into the menus and put it back to my liking. A few days of playing like that and I get pretty comfortable with the menus.
