Hi, first day joining. I can see this is a large, helpful and not closed community which is just what I'm looking for. My camera journey has gone from the original Canon G9 to S95, to M43, then ultimately Nikon FF. It's all about the lenses, so the major decision for me was what FF body to put on the lenses without breaking the bank. For me that was easy; a second hand D800E. My first love is my Ricoh GR which is with me every day, so the main purpose for the Nikon FF setup was landscapes (me being in Australia n'all that) and of course, in that regard, it has not disappointed. Having said that, there has been plenty of fun to be had with the Nikkor MF 50mm pancake and 85mm F1.8G. Why Nikon? Well, as a daily GR user, I did look at the Pentax K1 - a wonderful camera to my mind, very cheap too, but most certainly not when you factor in the cost of the newer lenses. By going Nikon, it was cheaper getting a used D800E and the lenses are cheaper too. There's just so many of them and native too, old and new. Primes only for me; I just feel less creative with a zoom. There's no excuses now - if the picture's bad it's my fault. Having this gear really does concentrate the mind in that respect and that's a good thing as well as, say, getting weaned off ibis which one can become too dependent on. The D800E's comparatively heavy and so I dare say it won't go traveling abroad with me. But there's plenty of fun and potentially outstanding images to be had and I'm enjoying the journey at the moment. As for the future, well, the thought of focus peaking my collection of wonderful classic Nikkor lenses (almost) natively on a Nikon FF mirrorless body is potentially very exciting. So looking forward to the coming years.
