Hi all, new to Nikon cameras.
I am waiting for the arrival of a D90, and checking out lenses. I really liked the 18-200 on my Canon.
would like opinions on the Nikon version.

If I were looking for a lens like the one you had, I would be going for the new 18-400 by Tamron. Check out reviews online and on YouTube. It seems to be a great all around lens with very good image quality at an amazing price. Welcome!

The used original Nikon 18-200's are going for $150 and they are lots better than the 18-300.

the new Tamron 18-400 costs real money, but its little brother the 16-300 is a great lens about $250 used

Welcome! What do to shoot with the D90? I have one from when they were first introduced and loved it. Even though I have added a D800 and D7000 to the kit, I enjoyed shooting with that camera the most since it was small ad light enough to take it with me every time I left the house resulting in more unplanned chance captures. I used the kit lens, 18-105 a lot, then added a 50 1.4 and 10-20 3.5 lenses but started getting serious with it when I added the 70-200 2.8. For general purpose walking around lensed the superzooms make sense but if you are interested in any specialty such as portraiture, sports, macro, low light, the superzooms are pretty compromised. At least one low-cost prime should be added to the kit for low light, interior shots and people shots with shallow depth of field. A 50 1.8g is a very nice sharp lens that gathers a lot more light than a zoom or a 35 1.8g for more general photography of whole scenes. Yongnuo has a 50 1.8 auto focus lenses that is a real bargain, about $50 that is well suited to low light shooting or portraits. Nikon's 1.8 is better but $275.

Welcome to the forum

If you fill out your profile and add the camera gear we can better answer any questions that you might have.
You can do that at http://nikonites.com/profile.php?do=editprofile

Under camera just put the model number like D7100; Once you put the first letter like D you will see a list of all the cameras in the database pop up. The more numbers you put in the smaller the list becomes. When you see your camera just click on it, Be sure to click on "Save Changes" in the lower right corner.

Thanks
