Hi all, please help, new D5500 Sensor defect?

OK so I have just signed up in order to ask for help. Hello by the way :)

Brand new Camera arrived on January 12th after being ordered from HDEW Cameras on the 6th. First thing I did upon unboxing was take a Photo and check the Shutter Count. I was overjoyed when it said '1'. I must mention, being a Body-only I noticed some kind of smearing on the Mirror which seemed to go away, so I put it down to condensation.

With this Camera I have upgraded from the D3300 (had the D3100 prior to that and before that the D40X was my first Nikon DSLR). I sold the D3300 to Jessops on Thursday and paid the extra for the Nikkor AF-S 35mm 1.8g as I wanted to take advantage of D5500's well-publicised Low-Light DR quality.

At first I thought it was a problem with the Lens. Was planning on taking it back tomorrow (Monday) when it dawned on me to try my other Lenses (AF-P 18-55 VR and AF-P 70-300).

To my dismay I was so saddened to see this Pinkish/Magenta horizontal band (Amp Glow?) along the bottom quarter of many of my Photos (on the right if shot as Portrait).

I will attach some examples, been trying to research online for the past 24 hours, but the Internet Search algorithms seem to have changed recently (can longer find meaningful, appropriate relevancy to the query?)

These Photo artifacts are sometimes evident in plain (unprocessed) sight, but I have emphasized the issue by exporting them with NX-D Software.

Please help. What is causing this? Is something seriously wrong with the Sensor? I am almost at 14 days so will need to ask to return the Camera asap if necessary!

I have tried multiple variations of Photo settings and all come out likewise (Delayed Exposure, 12 bit instead of 14, Live View, ADL Off, etc)

Thank you oh so very much for your assistance!

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

The attachments don't work for me either.

Try some flash or outdoor pictures. I've seen florescent and led lighting do some very weird things. Try a bare white wall shot. If you rule out weird lighting and still have a band, I'd say you have a camera problem.

That seems to be the exact same problem I am having. Strange how this isn't widely discussed, I really don't know what to do here as it seems to work OK in good light. But the low light Photos is what I decided on this particular model for this purpose. Sure the Purple isn't necessarily visible until I post process and raise the Shadows, but why is the top 3/4's beautifully rendered whereas the bottom quarter is destroyed.

Nevertheless Here is a 2 second image without Lens attached, at f22, ISO 100
D550000013__-2sec-ISO100_No-Lens.jpg

ALSO took a few others, with Lens Cap on, different ISO's etc. It only seems evident at higher ISO's and originally it looks black so I added like +.5 Exposure and Highlights 50% in NX-D

Looking at these it doesn't look bad apart from a Hot Pixel or two on the ISO 6400 Shots.

Basically my problem mirrors (excuse the pun) the link that was posted regarding someone else with the same situation.
IF I choose to send the Camera back is there a guarantee they will replace it with a like-for-like brand new D5500 with 0 Shutter Count? Or should I just deal with it and cut my losses?

Thank you again, it's been a long weekend and I have a headache now. Must rest…

Seems to me somebody else posted some majenta weirdness before. Can't remember who or if it was resolved.
If it were me, I would return it and just get another one so you aren't stuck if it can't be resolved.

I know somebody will ask this. Were you in raw?

While I'm no camera-repair technician I'll bet you dollars to donuts that purple glow you're seeing is what's called "amplifier glow". I don't know what causes it for certain but I believe amp glow is caused by heat generated by (surprise!) an amplifier located adjacent to the CCD array. Fixing it, to my knowledge, requires a service professional.

Only ever heard good things about HDEW
That's what I told them, haven't come across a bad review. Fingers crossed…

First time receiving a faulty product in many years. Typical, just my luck… this D5500 Camera besides the 'Amp Glow' problem is phenomenal!

Welcome to the forum. Hope things go well in resolving your issues.
Thank you! Me too :)

I need my D5500! One minute I have 2 Cameras (D3300 and D5500) now I have none - just mailed it out 'Special Delivery' which should arrive to them by tomorrow lunch.

First time without a DSLR for a long time (D40X was my first back in 2006). Each time I upgrade the next model impresses more and more over the previous. But this is a first being in this situation...

So tracking said they received it this morning around 8am. I didn't want to pester them so I waited until just before closing (they said they would contact me as soon as they received it).
Spoke to someone else on the phone, they said once they received "my order" they would send it out to me by the end of the week.
So I guess they don't carry products in-store, no problem. We will see…
