Hello!
I'm Karlie, I've been taking photos for years just with lower grade cameras, phone cameras etc. just out of love for some things that catch my eye. I received a Nikon D3400 for my birthday this year, my first DLSR camera and realized I've got a lot to learn! I look forward to gaining knowledge and seeing the beautiful photos from y'all. :)

I'm trying to learn it, I've been trying to figure out the manual mode, I've watched a lot of videos and they said it's better to learn that because auto isn't always best. :)

Welcome!

My advice is to read, watch videos, and ask all the questions you need to. We'll be a helpful bunch here. The biggest thing is to get out and take pictures. You'll learn more through experience than anything.

Welcome to the forum

If you fill out your profile and add the camera gear we can better answer any questions that you might have.
You can do that at http://nikonites.com/profile.php?do=editprofile

Under camera just put the model number like D7100; Once you put the first letter like D you will see a list of all the cameras in the database pop up. The more numbers you put in the smaller the list becomes. When you see your camera just click on it, Be sure to click on "Save Changes" in the lower right corner.

Thanks

I thought that I had filled it out. Perhaps I did something wrong or didn't save it! I'll check and fix it next time I'm on the computer!

hello and welcome, remember if you are having trouble with manual, stick it in auto and remember what setting it uses, then switch back and apply them, good luck you will get it, we all went thru this.

How does it differ when taking a photo in manual vs auto, if using the same settings? I went on a little photo trip in the mountains early this morning and found myself a little frustrated at my inability to figure out the proper "triangle" of manual settings, I know practice will help, but I'm very confused

If you have the eye, and you are not intimidated by technology (even film is technology...), then you will do fine.

D3400 - "The first one is free..." :devilish:

Edit: duh - just read your handle. What is your ride? Mine was a '79 R65 for 35 years.

Hopefully I do, I've received pretty good feedback on some of the photos I've taken but I guess I'm the worst critic of myself.

Those are nice bikes! I have a '15 Honda CBX my first adventure bike. I started on a sport bike and decided I wanted to play more offroad and possibly do a big trip later down the road. 35 years? That's awesome! I've only been riding about 3.

CBX? You had me going there for a while! I thought Honda might have reused the moniker, but a quick search showed the Honda X-ADV 750.

The CBX off road would be an adventure, indeed! :D

But I agree, once you go dirt, there is no going back.

This is that same road, not much later. And I have this thing about turning around...
(there was no sign at the beginning of the road!)

It took me a while to figure out WNC. Google to the rescue. (Western North Carolina)
I always wanted to make it to Willville Bike Camp in Meadows of Dan, and I think Burke's Garden just looks delightful! (flatlander, here...) https://goo.gl/maps/qZ34osAjB3k

I just returned from a few days at the northern end of your mountain chain - Williamsport, PA. My ex-wife grew up as a "townie" outside of Eagles Mere. I stopped up there while I was there, but I didn't see any birds in the air, so I geocached, instead. Mostly a business trip, but any time I get to wrinkled land, I am happy.

Finally! Proper-sized tires on a scooter!
Yep, I would be proud to own one of those. (my last bike was a CBR250R)
Mostly I want to live where you do, and explore roads cut into the sides of mountains. Old RR grades... Try not to get shot by landowners...
