Dear All,
I am using D5200 since the last two years or so and somehow learned the basics of photography. My lenses are the kit lense (18-55 VR), Sigma 70-300 and nikon 50 mm prime f1.8.

Now i want to upgrade my camera for trying some serious photos if i can. i am in stringent budget. i would like to have D7000 with a 18-105mm kit lense.

Is it worth changing the camera from D5200 to D7000 or i should go for good lenses with D5200? Please highlight?

Any other suggestions is appriciated.

Thanks and regards
Saikat

Welcome to the forum. Glad you have joined us. I believe, if you can afford it, the 7100 would be the better choice for an upgrade.

If the budget is too tight for a new D7100/7200, check if there are any good second hand ones available. Welcome along..

Welcome to the forum. Enjoy the fun of trying to figure out how far to push the budget. There are always pros and cons to each choice. I own a D7100 which is used most of the time because of the ability to adjust setting quickly using thumb wheels and not a menu system. The D5300 I own does very good in performance too, but is not as easy to change settings quickly. I know this does not directly answer your question, but others have done that in previous posts. I just threw this out to give you more insight (confusion). Ha!

Howdy and welcome to Nikonites!

Walt gave you a good run down on the D5x00 vs D7x00 useability so whether you decide to upgrade the camera or the lenses really depends on you, what you shoot, and what's troubling you with your current results. There were several reasons why I decided to go from the D5300 to the D7100, but I really saw improvements as my skills improved and I acquired better glass.
