Hello From Illinois

Hello everybody, new to the forum but not to photography. Just getting back into the hobby after some time off. Worked as a photog at a small newspaper during high school many years ago. Have done some part time stuff on my own with some weddings and portraits and some freelance work. Most of my work was with film and just got into digital when the D1x came out. Didn't get too big into it before life got in the way. Have been thru cancer and a work injury that has taken away my ability to earn a living. A friend is getting married and I promised to shoot his wedding so I'm dusting off the camera bag and look into some new gear and it has brought me back to life. This has me remembering how much I loved taking pictures and will be good to get me out and moving. Hope to make some new friends and learn more about the world of digital photography.

I was one that got away from photography after spending 20 years in it. Stayed away for 10 years and now back into it. It is now about all I do now that I m retired. Glad you have found you way. If there is anything we can do just let us know.

Now post some photos.

Welcome to the forum. I do not have the history that you have with photography but I did pick it up after becoming disabled and it has been such a blessing, and this forum is a good bunch of people. You get a lot of knowledge, support and encouragement here. Welcome.

Thanks for the welcomes. It will be good to get back into taking pictures. Will get my mind active again and maybe moving more which can only be a good thing. Last worked in the real world 9 years ago and waiting for the system to work in the work comp world. Took 10 years to settle and sadly still have to deal with it because they cover my medical for the rest of my life. Shooting this wedding is not going to be easy on me and I will not be able to do everything I would normally do but he will get some great pictures. Hoping maybe getting back into the hobby will help me get out and do more which will help in the long run. Could increase my pain and slow me down more if I don't watch what I do. This is going to be a small wedding in a nice little church so that will help. Need to keep the gear lite.

I've been doing some surfing at new gear and remember how much money I don't have to get the things I'd like to have. But also nice to see how far things have come over the years. I've gone from loading my own film from bulk rolls to now you load in a small card that will hold more pictures then I once could ever imagine being able to take. When I got my D1x and 1g hard drive in a compact flash cost me over $300 and now a 2g compact flash runs under $20. Would love to get back into doing some darkroom work but with computers it just doesn't make since anymore. We can go from taking a picture to having it printed in less time then it took to develop a roll of film, and that doesn't include drying it. Digital has taken some of the fun out of taking pictures but has also opened up a whole new world. Young people today I think would have fun going and shooting a roll of film and take it from there to the darkroom and printing their pictures out.

Greetings from Oregon ... looking forward to seeing your photos. Keep an eye on the Want Ads here. You might find good buys on items that you want, and for far less than you'd pay at retail.

I, too, remember the darkroom days. My, but how things have changed.

Trying to get back on track just not sure how much my body will let me. This has been good that my friend is getting married and really didn't have the money for a lot, made me want to shoot it for him and so I back into thinking about shooting picture. Bad is I know I could never shoot a normal complete wedding. I'm going to have to watch the weight I carry for one and not be on my feet as much as I need to be. But maybe starting out like this will help me build up some core strength again to do more. That has been the hardest part of getting hurt is coming to understand my body just can't do what it once could. After the wedding day I will be laid up resting for a few days after which if I get it together to play with the RAW files I will have the time. The other part is adjusting to living on a lot less income. To expand any equipment is going to take some saving and finding some good deals down the road.
