Hi All From Argentina

Dear all

My name is Federico and I'm an Italian living in Argentina.

I was used to shoot quite a lot when I was at University, like 20 years ago.

I had an old metal and heavy Reflex camera and I learned to develop my own pics in a workshop at the University of Art and Design of Helsinki.

Now I'm almost 42 and I’m getting in touch with art again.

So I decided, following the suggestion of a Pro Photographer friend of mine, to buy a Nikon D3300 Camera.

I’ll put my hands on it in a couple of weeks and I’m really excited. I bought the two lenses in the kit (18-55 and 55-200) plus a tripod and a “studio set”, to have a white / black / green background, lights and the basic stuff to start to have fun.

I’d like to take family pictures and portrait starting from my big family in a "studio like" situation and in theatres (my sister is a pro tango dancer).

I guess that I’ll be around here quite often!

Ciao

Federico

Thank you vary much for your suggestion Dragan. They are all quite out of my reach at the moment. I red good reviews about the Nikon NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX. Could it be decent alternative for portrait? I have seen that the price for an used Nikon 85mm f/1.8 AF-D it's around 250 USD. I could pay that but I don't know if it's ok to buy used lenses.

Welcome. Enough equipment for the start. Maybe you should consider buying a good portraiture lens (85 f1.8 D, manual focus only with your camera! Nikon 85mm f/1.8 AF-D Review, or, if it wouldn't brake the bank, the 85 mm f1.4/1.8 G, auto focus even with 3300 https://goo.gl/2cl51l ).

-35 mm, not really - though it's pretty much usable as an "universal" ("standard") lens on a DX camera, but not as a dedicated portraiture lens. Could be quite handy in the theater (as it's been mentioned in your post) thanks to it's large aperture ("fast" lens).
-This 85 mm would be the right choice. It's price is reasonable, and if it comes from a trusted source (money back guarantee etc.) you are strongly advised to purchase it.
