Hi, I've just added a D7000 to my very old collection of Nikons: a 601 film camera, a Coolpix 885 (frustrating camera) and my mainstay until recently, a D50. I mainly use it for travel shots, especially cycle touring. I know that the D7000 with an 18-200 lens is not a light option, but when I'm a 60kg whippet then I may be able to justify complaining about the weight:)

I must say that D50 -> D7000 is a steep learning curve!

Hi Michael, and welcome to the Nikonites Community. The D7000 is a great camera and a big step from a D50. I'm sure you will have fun learning all it's new features. You have come to the right place to ask questions about your camera and photography in general. This is a very friendly group who also like to add some humor and keep things light. We welcome everyone and all questions. Enjoy the site.

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum. Last cycling trip I did was in Mallorca, Spain last year. I took my D90 with only the 18-200 Vr and was very happy with the pictures. You can have a look at some of them in my gallery. I've since then got the D7000 too and will be taking it to Hungary in September for another 2 weeks of cycling.
Enjoy the D7000, it's a nice camera to take along.
