Making the switch!

Dropping in to say hello and introduce myself.

I'm an amateur enthusiast photographer from VA, getting back in to the swing of things. About 4 years ago I was scammed out of my current photography setup (Canon 7D and a few lenses) on eBay and just didn't have the funds to get back in, so I went on hiatus.

I'm expecting my first child in July so I figured now would be a good time to reinvest so that I can capture all of the special moments with our newly expanded family.

I was originally planning on going with a Canon 6D kit to get back in. I knew that I wanted to upgrade to full frame when I returned to the hobby. Then I started doing some searching on the Nikon side and reading reviews about the D750. I was very impressed with what I saw for the price. Still I wasn't quite convinced I wanted to switch from a platform I am super familiar with, that was until yesterday when an Amazon vendor mistakenly listed the D750 kits at the body only price. The second I saw this, I placed my order. I fully expected to receive an email stating the vendor was out of stock or some such shenanigans as at the time of purchase it showed 2 units remaining in stock. Much to my surprise, later in the day I received my shipping confirmation and tracking number! So I ended up snagging the D750 with 24-120mm kit for under $2000, saving us $700! The deal was just too good to pass up.

So, here I am, the new owner of a Nikon D750. I am looking forward to sharing photos and learning as much as I can from the other members here.

Hope to see you all around very soon!

I'd love to hear how you were scammed - you lost money? A Paypal reversal, no doubt...
Yes, someone bought the gear on eBay, then 2 months later filed a credit card dispute with the PayPal charge. PayPal refused to fight the chargeback on my behalf regardless of the fact that I had tracking confirmation WITH a signature that the recipient received the goods. A bunch of crooks. I haven't used eBay since.

I have heard of such things, and since then I disconnected my Paypal from my bank account and all credit cards. If anyone tries that with me, good luck, cause you'll need to take me to court. :)

Oh, and this convinced me to do the horrible thing. The horrible thing? Yes, I closed my eBay account.

Howdy and welcome to Nikonites!

See those great opportunities on Amazon is a great thing! That's how I ended up with two YN568EX's for the price of one! :)

Hello and welcome. When you receive your camera and kit lens, be sure to check the number of shutter actuations to ensure it is indeed brand new.

Unfamiliar with Nikon for this. Do I need software to check it or can I check this on the body itself? Canon requires a special app to check actuations.

Welcome 10. Glad to see you've come over from the dark side.
What part of VA. I work in Charlottesville.
Thanks! Hoping that my new Nikon getup won't disappoint. Surely it won't.

I work in King George and live in Caroline. My coworkers daughter lives in Charlottesville.
