hiya, just been browsing this site for a bit and seems very useful and friendly so thought id sign up.

i dont actually own a nikon camera (yet...) but im currently looking/researching for one, when i get chance haha!

ive never owned a DSLR Camera before, but a few of my friends have nikons and the pictures are superb!

i currently own a fujifilm 1730 bridge camera, as i didnt want to spend the extra money on something i might not use that often

i wish i had now, as i would like the faster fps and be able to change lenses for different occasions ( school sports days, taekwondo tournaments etc) plus maybe go for walks and take some nice pictures

i have been leaning towards the D3200 as it looks like a pretty good starting point into the DSLR world, plus it does have a few guides on there to help assist me take better pictures

sorry for the long intro..

cheers

I like your intro! No need to be sorry for it! Welcome to Nikonites! If you can afford it a D3300 would be a better place to start, or better yet a D5300. But even a D3100 works as a start! Lol It did for me! Lol :)
If you don't mind older tech, the D90 is a great starter model too! Loved mine, though I love my D300 a lot more, I have to admit. The pro features just made me fall in love with D300, even though it's old tech! :D

Welcome aboard.
As you can see (read) there are hundreds of options and twice as many opinions! :)

Nothing wrong with the D3200 - a friend of mine has one and produces amazing shots. My choice was between the D3200 and the D5100. I opted for the latter for the flip screen, slightly higher FPS and longer battery life. And of course I was limited by budget. At the time both were on special for the same price.

Just do it.

PS after purchasing I found a few extras like more ISO options plus a few other things

Still - just do it!

Newer tech, better sensor I believe. But you might stick to you original plan and just buy an extra lens to go with it. Can't go wrong buying a good lens for whatever type of photos you enjoy taking! :D

i could possibly stretch to the 3300, what would the benefits of doing so be?

ive heard its best to try get the new 18-55mm VRII, as it makes putting filters on alot easier? i know the 3200 does come with this new lense as standard now

id love to get something like the 5100 but unfortunately family life comes first, boring i know haha!! the most id probs get would be a telephoto lense as the 18-55mm does a good all round job.

this is just stuff based on what ive read mind haha

I'd recommend a 55-300mm to go with the 18-55mm lens. My buddy Don took some great shots with one, and it would give you some reach to go with your 18-55mm kit lens! :D

I would suggest getting the D3300 with its kit lense. The combination is perfect for a beginner. Take time and hone up your technique. Get no other lenses till you have spent a couple of months with it.

Welcome! Since you mentioned you were not sure if you wanted to jump in and spend $$$ on a camera. Then perhaps you should start with a used DSLR. That's how a lot of us started. There's plenty of them to be found. Either way. Good luck!

I've tried looking for used ones but can't seem to find very good deals, any places you can recommend looking in uk, don't really want to get one off eBay. Yeah I've no intention of getting different lenses straight away, I know the standard lense is a very versatile and useful lense

Just get a new D3300 with the kit lens, do not bother with pre owned stuff, unless you know the seller intimately. This camera is quite reasonably priced

That's the problem with used, you need to know how many shots been taken also, can't remember the correct term, Shutter actuation maybe? Is there a size difference between the 3300 & 5100, as I have a mate with a 5100 he'll let me have a go with

Welcome to the website, I have the Nikon D3200 a very goodcamera to start off with, and the 18-55mm kit lens is good, if you can, go fora 55-200mm or 300mm lens
