Hello and welcome to the Nikonites Community. Glad to have you back in photography especially as a Nikon user. Lot of good folk here to help you with any questions. And Jack is correct please complete your profile with your camera lens and any other equipment you may be using. It helps in responding to your posts.

Welcome to Nikonites Jimi, hope you find the forum inspirational! One thing great about photography is you can put it down for a while, dust everything off and get back into it at any time. Hope to see you frequently around the forum.

That must've been a crappy overseas experience... care to share? At any rate, welcome, and I hope inspiration will find you again.

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome. I think I may have worded it wrong but I actually had the most amazing 12 months travelling experience and it was only when I got back and realised that there were no water buffallos wandering through the back garden and all the beautiful temples etc. were a million miles away from cloudy Halifax!! I just need to get back out there now and see the beauty in my own back yard again. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and hopefully getting some inspiration from you guys.

Ahh, that makes a lot more sense now! Inspiration will come to you, just take the time to appreciate the beauty in your everyday surroundings. Make it a goal to find at least one thing around you every day that is worth photographing... sounds cliche, but it works. Sometimes we feel uninspired simply due to the lack of attention we pay to our familiar environs. If you start looking for things worth capturing, you will see them. :)

And I'll attest to that. My rule for myself is that if I have my camera with me, I have to bring back at least one "worthy photo". I can't travel to where the water buffaloes, tigers, and lions are (unless I go to a zoo), so I have to look at my own backyard differently (not that New Mexico isn't beautiful ) But this philosophy has made me look at the ordinary things in a different way.

Best Regards
