Welcome to Nikonites Kathy. You can read all you like, but the real learning you will do with the camera in your hands and later with the post processing. Remember that post processing (photoshop, Gimp, Lightroom) is a very important part of the finished print. So, while you're waiting to get your first camera, you can always spend time studying post processing as it will be very useful later.
