May 2016 Monthly Assignment Theme: "ALMOST ANYTHING GOES--Composition using Wide or Ultra Wide Angle Lens (PLEASE READ THE WHOLE POST TO SEE WHAT IS REQUESTED FOR THIS MONTH)"

This month is cut short, so we will not be too restrictive on the theme criteria. Ideally, it is for the use of a 35mm or wider lens, but of course there are those with cropped sensors and full frame cameras and some who may or may not have a wide or ultra wide lens so all I ask this month is that you do the best you can to meet criteria. We will not split hairs over "WIDE". Even with the relaxed guides this month, your composition needs to include the use of one or all of the following:

  • Leading lines
  • Diagonals
  • Rule of Thirds

WHATEVER it is, this is the month to try to capture a wide angle composition including at least one of the items in the list.

There ya go, let's get shooting! CREATIVITY/TECHNIQUE rules in this challenge, but there are a few guidelines:

1. Any photo submitted for a monthly assignment must be taken using a Nikon Camera!

2. All submissions must be taken during the month specified in the assignment thread and taken by YOU! (Please insure that EXIF is either posted with the photo or if it gets messed up, hold yourself to the honor system and add the minimum Exif data of the Camera used and the date the photo was taken to your post)

2. Obviously, for this challenge, your photo must portray something meeting the criteria listed above. Other than that, it's all up to your interpretation of the theme. Any photo will be accepted, SOOC or edited, doesn't matter.

3. Photos must be posted in this thread to be considered. Links to photos will not be considered an entry.

4. Only THREE entries per member for each assignment. Please post entries separately (1 photo per post) and number the entry.

5. Entries will be judged by the number of likes received.

6. The top 5 shots will be displayed in a separate thread, and will be displayed in no particular order.

7. This is intended to be a FUN challenge. No critiques unless specifically asked. Also, please limit posts to just photos and brief descriptions/titles. Any comments/discussion should occur elsewhere, PLEASE.

As listed in other challenges, please note: NO CASH OR PRIZES will be awarded for this Monthly Assignment.

HAVE FUN, can't wait to see the results!!

Re: May 2016 Monthly Assignment

First Entry:

A week ago, I had the honor of serving as the event photographer for the Quinceañera celebration for the daughter of a friend and fellow Campbell's Soup refugee. Part of observance took place in this Catholic church; I think this is the first time I've ever been inside a Catholic church, and certainly the first time I've ever attended any Catholic ceremony.

Being a Mormon in a Catholic church was not nearly so awkward as being a Nikon guy in a place where the video guys were using Canons. I can respect religious faiths different from my own, but I just can't abide Canon equipment and users.

Second Entry:

An interesting architectural detail of the church in which this phase of the Quinceañera observance took place. This lighted archway spanned across the ceiling of the chapel.
