Interesting story stating that Sigma would like to make lens for the Nikon 1 system but that Nikon hasn't released the specs. Sigma has released fast (f/2.8) Sony and micro 4/3'rds primes lenses at a great price point (around US$200) that are getting very good reviews. Come on Nikon, competition is a good thing!

In the immortal words of Gordon Gekko, "Greed is good," and this is a prime example of corporate greed. Apple made a similar error in judgement back in the old days of the McIntosh computers. They decided to not allow other companies to use their operating system on clone machines, then along comes Bill Gates, who decides to allow MS DOS to be used by anyone who could make a MS DOS clone. That simple move almost destroyed Apple and took Microsoft to the top.

To add to this - what lenses should Sigma make{I would also add Tamron and Tokina to the mix}.
Here are my ideas!
#1 a fast normal prime. The Nikkor 18.5mm is an f1.8 which is good but with mirrorless faster is easier than with an SLR due to the shorter registration distance. I would want at least an f1.4 and hopefully even faster.
#2 fast kit range zoom say 12 or 13mm to 37 or 40mm {about a 35mm-100mm in FF} with a constant f2.8. Kit lenses can often have good IQ but are always slow!
#3 a 50mm! This comes out as a 135mm in FF which is a focal length I like a lot. It should be an f2 or maybe an f1.8. You might say just use an adapted 50mm - yes but I want a small and lightweight 50 and not a big and heavy adapted one!
#4 tele! Not going to give an exact focal length but something in the 300-500mm FF range. It does need to be fairly fast{f2.8-f4} and could be either a prime or a zoom. A 300mm in FF would be a 112mm on the Nikon 1!

Of coarse if they want to make other lenses that these that is fine too.
