Nikon Announces Z6II and Z7II

I just looked at the announcement material at Nikon USA regarding the Nikon Z6II and Z7II, and I am impressed. The new Dual Processors sound pretty impressive, and I am anxious to see what some good reviewers have to say about them...(that would be anyone other than T&C, the angry guy, and Fro).

If it is half the hype it will really be a nice upgrade... if you have the cash. It really sounds like they were listening to users. Dual card slots and the working battery grip are there but the things they have done to improve focus sound very good, and there is now 900 sec of long exposure.

It is worth looking at the roll out.

I like what I see in these revisions and that the price is the same, but the proof will be in the use. I was holding off for the Z9, but I saw something about a ~$7000 price tag?! I'd love the Z6 frame rate on the Z7, at least in DX mode with the smaller file size. I will definitely make my way to a shop to check these out.

What is this cash thing you talk about? :)

I was lamenting the fact that I just had to replace my car leaving me a bit depleted in the cash department.

I had no plans to update, but this was awful tempting. I have to admit if I had a bit more disposable income I might consider the upgrade. I am anxious to see a few hands on reviews.

I saw that big price on the Z9 too. I think the changes to the Z6II and Z7II are pretty impressive. I was surprised by the shutter speed improvements. I am anxious to see what the second processor does to help with the AF system. The roll out literature indicate that it increases focus speed and buffer size.

One of the focus improvements I liked was with the "Wide Area L" focus field in AFC. I rarely used any of the tracking focus selections offered in my other Nikons. I started using this one a lot for Senior Photos and Family Photos. I really like it because it assures a good lock on the eye or face. The improvement announced is interesting. You will be able to pick the area and the size of the area where the camera will look for eye and face detect. This would be really helpful for family photos and Church photos I take.

I am anxious to see what some of the more even-handed reviewers have to say about the camera.

As you say, Dan, the specs look nice but we need some hands on practical info. There's no way I can afford a new camera body right now, which is probably good. No temptation. :)

I'll be interested to see what the availability once these cameras are out. Will they trickle in slowly like a lot of the newer Nikon stuff has over the last couple of years? Between trade problems, COVID, and the economy it will be interesting.

I am curious about availability as well. I have found though that I have better access at my local shop with new stuff than at the big stores. They had a Z 70-200 f 2.8 in stock yesterday, and they have been hit-and-miss at the big stores.

But I did see that Ricci had done an intro and was playing with preproduction and was pleased with the improvements. It is kind of interesting to watch this one. They added so much of what people were clamoring about. I am most curious about the impact of the 2 processors.

Time will tell. No new body in my near future either Woody... but it is interesting to see the improvements.

LOL. I noticed a couple of "reviews" by so-called experts this morning. They are already making all kinds of claims and observations even though they haven't actually held one in their hands. Greedy for ad revenue and not so keen on providing practical info. In a few weeks or months I'm sure Steve Perry will be letting us all know the truth. :)

Now if it gets GPS I'm ready to buy.

If you keep it linked to your phone with snap bridge it does capture GPS coordinates. Snap Bridge works much better on the Z cameras. I keep it on and let it down load 2-3 meg JPG files as I am shooting.

I was surprised how well SnapBridge works with my Z6.

Me too. I had heard all the horror stories around it with the D500 and expected it to be more of the same, but it works pretty much seamlessly. I only have to remember to delete the photos from my phone that I do not want to keep out there.
