I wonder if this will be the replacement for the Nikon 1 series of cameras that were discontinued. I've actually been thinking of picking up a Nikon 1 V3 and a FT1 so I can use my F mount glass and with a crop factor of 2.7 a teleconverter isn't needed except for the most extreme circumstances.

Must admit i am a fan of the 1 series, i dont feel this will be a replacement yet, there was a rumor again though that the 1 could come back in some guise.

I’m on the fence tight now, eBay has a bunch of V3 around $390 with the 10-30mm refurbished.

That would give me a pocket camera right of the box and combined with the FT1 attached to my 70-200/2.8 I can reach out to 540mm without dropping thousands on a large tele-zoom.

The V3 was the best but the new price with the EVF was too high for me so i opted for the V2 with built in EVF

I used mine in the past with some long Sigma zooms hand held.

I really don’t know much about the 1 series of cameras excepting reading about them years ago when they first came out. I do remember the prices to be very high, so high that it was better to buy a DSLR.

I just saw a refurb J4 with lens for $180, that might be the way to go.

With Canon doing this exact thing you would have thought that there was some truth in it.

I just dont know how they will align it to be consumer enough, 20mp has become the norm, which doesnt take it much lower than the Z 6, would they want to muddy the water by having a body without IBIS in it, especially when the new lenses dont have that on them.

Would it just be easier for them (even though they said they werent looking at crop at the moment) to put a D500 sensor in the body and called it a Z5, using the new glass?

If you want an EVF it needs to be the V1,2, or 3 with some of the J models Nikon blocked them working with some long lenses so do some research first.

Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. The deal on the J4 is pretty sweet though.

I need another $200 off then I'll grab a V3.
