For a Z-Lite to be competitive Nikon is going to have to reduce the price down to $1k-$1200.

Im sure it wont have any weather sealing or a magnesium body. Theyll probably add a built in flash sense most consumers want one on their cameras and they have them built into their phones.

WiFi and Bluetooth should also be added (I doubt it though), if not they wont connect with the mobile youth who are used to posting to Facebook and SnapChat instantly.

For true entry level i think it would need some lenses, the Z range they have is not entry level.

I would have thought Nikon would go with a APS-C sensor (-$150 less than FF) and F-Mount DX lenses. I thought that until I read the link I posted earlier. Im still mentally debating if that is a Z6/7 mock-up or not.

Re: new Nikon Z camera designed for consumers will be coming

I am very happy with my Z6. I have been getting to know it a bit and not posting a lot... (The weather and Pat's needs have played a part in that too). I am amazed at the EVF and IBIS. I also like the 24-70 f4 although I would like to have the 2.8.

After over a year shooting the D700 with a single CF card, I have gotten over the duel card issue. I have not gotten over the price of the XQD card.

I really think an entry-level camera could be done without the magnesium frame and minimal weatherizing. I do also believe it needs to stay full frame. I think they could eliminate the info window on top of the body like they do with the D5600 and below. They could also reduce the number of focus points and some of the flexibility of the viewfinder like maybe removing the histogram, or reducing the resolution.

There are a lot of ways to take cost out of the camera. They could also spend some time on reasonably priced lenses like the 24-120 f4 that could be a good place to start if you were just getting into FX. They offer that in a kit with other FX bodies.

    Just some early morning ramblings.

The latest is the image is of a early Z6/7 mock up, not a new entry level.
