My first few days with the Z 7

As some of you may have read, I have now moved from my trusted D500 and gone over to the mirrorless side and ordered a Z 6, but you are asking why I titled this thread with the Z 7, well as stock is in short supply in the UK of 6's my contacts at Nikon gave me a 7 to play with until my unit arrived.

So I have taken it out for a while and have found that I love their first foray into mirrorless. Here are some of the shots, I was actually at an event in Dublin for Nikon so I took the camera with me and did a few shots around the hotel. I then took the camera out on the weekend into Windsor.

All of the shots were taken with the S Line 24-40 F4

I love the colors, thank you for the photos!

Do you have the 70-200/2.8G, have you used it with the Z6/7, if so, how's the image stabilization?

Have you been shooting some more with the new body? Any more feedback at this point? It's always fun to have a new toy! :)

I have the Sigma 70-200 2.8 but I have been using the camera since I got it, i have been doing workshops and using other brands.

I have currently taken around 40 photos on it, I actually took it into London and just did some tourism shots. I have been doing workshops in conjunction with other camera brands so i havent really played with it yet :(

Sorry, I meant to ask about the 24-70/2.8G and how usage is with in body stabilization?

I have the Nikkor 24-70 1:2.8G ED (this one does not have VR) and it works perfectly with the FTZ and I can hand hold it at 70mm and get a sharp shot at 1/15th, I was never able to do that on the D500 or D850

The G and E 24-70 2.8 both work great on the Z cameras, mine do anyway. But the 24-70 f/4 is likely the sharpest zoom available right now. It is really good. It has a bit higher distortion but the camera and LR have automatic correction in the lens profiles. Resolving power in the corners, sharpness, color, micro contrast and flare resistance, are flat out better. They just announced the 2.8 version but it would have to be a lot better get me to switch. The Z 50 1.8 might well be the sharpest lens available.
Probably the most striking feature of the Z6 is the low light performance. It is better than my D850 or D800 and tests by a Nikon employee who has a vlog on YouTube did some interesting tests, comparing to the D5 and the Z6beat in noise preserved detail and right up to 102,000 ISO! At 51,000 is was clearly better. I have published images at 22,000 ISO that looks good. The Z7 is a stop lower in high ISO performance.
I think when the S lenses start filling out the focal lengths, a Z7 and the new fast S lenses will be the combo for commercial ad work, fashion, product and portraiture, while the Z6 will be the general purpose low light and high-performance video.
In 3 weeks, I have shot the D8x0 cameras but once, not because they are not top cameras, they are, but because the Z6 brings fun back into carrying a camera around all day.
Tonight my friend Nastia and I were out walking around chatting on the first spring-like day(+3C) and the snow/ice disappears over the last couple days. We were looking for someplace that had some jazz or just a nice bar and I just captured a couple shots while she was near a restaurant window with some neon sign, it was dark, dark enough to have trouble seeing the sidewalk we were on. f/4, 1/100 ISO 12,000.I could not even see her left(camera right )eye

I know Ricci personally and all the guys at the Nikon school and NPS, I do a lot of work with them :)

I have already asked that when they can, let me know the price of the 24-70 2.8 the 70-200 2.8 and the 85mm 1.8... I am happy with my F mount lenses until these come out, I purposely didn't buy into the 24-70 F4 as I like the 2.8 and with it coming there really was no need.

Its a great piece of kit and I love it, I just haven't had enough time to play with it, I have been busy with Sony kit, Fuji cameras and the new Panasonic S1R, hopefully soon I can put it to use with a model shoot :)
