Perfect Lens for Baseball? How about the 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300? (Lots of pics)

Just returned from the annual family trip that includes attending at least one professional baseball game in a new stadium. I was pretty pumped to try out my V2 with the 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 at a ball game.

This year was SoCal to watch the terrible Phillies in Los Angeles and San Francisco. At the Dodgers game we were in the second row in the right field corner. At the Giants game we were in the third upper deck facing McCovey Cove. Both were night games.

All images were taken handheld, processed in Lightroom CC 2015.1 and run through Dfine 2 using the automatic profile for noise reduction. For a lightweight system shooting from the fan sections, I'm pretty darn pleased with the results.

Been following results from this lens,it certainly works well, great set of images

I'd be hard pressed to decide between the 6.7-13mm and the 70-300mm as the best zoom for the Nikon 1. Both are unique and just a joy to use.

Nice pictures!

My wife is doing the same thing that I think you're doing - trying to see a game in every ballpark. She goes a little cheaper, though, and buys tickets in the upper deck, usually to the side of home plate, so sometimes my pictures of the games include a net, and even the ones that don't have the net still have that bird's-eye-view of the game feel. You have a much better angle on the game.

Down side: I don't enjoy baseball very much.

I like her and I don't even know her! LOL

We did splurge on the Dodgers tickets but we were in the third deck in San Fran. Buying 4 at a time gets expensive!

Yeah. For us, it's only two seats, but that can still be $200 for the upper deck seats, plus parking, food, etc. I think she'll have a third of the list crossed off by the end of this summer. I have insane, expensive hobbies too (cough) so I don't complain too much.
