The Nikon 1 J3 was just discontinued so Best buy was selling them out for $349 (from $599) so I sold my P&S to pick up one of these. I was mainly attracted to the larger sensor, but all of the other features are very impressive. I'm amazed how small it is! Now waiting for the battery to charge.....,

Congratulations on the camera.
While you wait for the battery to charge, I'll sit here and wait for some shots to show up.

I'm at the end of my bananas:) This is a shot with the 10-30 kit lens at 30mm (translation is 82mm). This has vr, shot at 1/25th at f5.6, Jpeg!. Imagine what a fast lens can do! There is also an adapter available to use all of the standard mount lenses on this tiny body.

A test in the RAW. Not many great subjects so I'm at my desk, 1/60th with flash (relatively low light). No PP except for sizing, 2nd shot is 100% crop, I think is great for a 1" sensor. Focus point is on the chip in the cup.

It's strange zooming such a small lens on this mini body! With a P&S size camera you're using a toggle switch near the shutter, this will take some getting used to. Ergonomics are odd, being so small in the hands. The case I ordered is the old style 2 piece SLR case where 1/2 the case is attached to the body via the tripod mount. This wrap-around leather body case should give me some more grip.

I did the same thing, Rick. I got a one lens kit Nikon 1 J3 for $296 at Adorama . . . for that price I thought I could play around with the mirrorless system and replace my stupid point and shoot. it's arriving tomorrow

I think you'll love it Helene! The size and handling is different, but the IQ is so much closer to a DSLR than the P&S's. No shutter lag either, that drove me nuts on my G15!

That is totally wild! But what in the world would you need anything like that amount of speed to shoot, is the thought that is running through my head! My second thought is can it be slowed down to a more reasonable speed, like say 20-25 fps! But it sure is astounding! :D

The continuous shooting mode is hysterical, up to 60 fps! sounds like a mini machine gun :)

You can chose between 5-60 fps. I think it will be great for action shots, kids, wildlife. It has an interesting burst feature that shoots 20 frames and saves what it considers the best 5 (in auto). The 5-60 is available in manual modes also.

The most important feature I tested in the store was the ease of shooting in Aperture mode. Once I figured out the menu, I was able to configure AP as it works on my D600. I preset ISO to 400 and the selector wheel on the back rotates to easily change the aperture (no menu digging once it is setup). Flash and continuous mode work as normal in AP also so I was very pleased my shooting "habits" would mimic what I do with the D600.
