I am using it with my 50mm and Raynox DCR-250 as I loaned my 90mm macro out.

Here are my first test shots.

The first shot is with a flash head left and right of the subject power setting Low

Here I had a flash head to the right and one at the back, both set to low.

This shot I increased the power output on the L Rear flash unit and kept the right the same.

Cool shots Scott.
At our last club meeting there was a guy talking about macro photography and I must admit I have seldom heard such a bad talk. The man confused the hell out of everybody with his micrometer gear and how to set it up and work it. He doesn't shoot live insects but prefers to kill them and then pose them. Very nice way of keeping clutter out of the image I suppose but hardly practical in the field!
It would seem he does no field work and actually stated it was impossible!!!!
I thought of some of the guys on here and how they could so prove him wrong.
however for the sake of peace I held my tongue!
That was a bit off subject so back to your new lights.
They look awesome - we have new ring lights in the shop and I am thinking of getting one for macro. I mean it has been at least a week since I was last in the "post your latest purchases" thread!
And you keep mentioning that Raynox. Do I, don't I?

PS Check your e-mail. :)

Maybe I should come along on one of your club meetings ;) I hate people who kill insects just to photograph them. I do not even remove them from their habitat...

Ok will check my email :)

Yes the killing of insects - albeit it humanely according to him - did not go down too well with the members.
Humanely in this case was put them in a jar and then immediately in the deep freeze. How anyone can say what insects feel I don't know.

I would get a huge fine with the Leichardt grasshoppers if found doing that.

PS @Lawrence you should have told him that an Aussie can practically touch live dragon flies when taking their macros and he needs to work on his technique lol not to mention the 21 image focus stack of a live robber fly haha

Exactly what I was thinking when he was talking. The man had no idea.
Actually I thought that after my trip I am hoping to be vastly improved at Macro (thanks to an excellent tutor) and might give the club a "talk" on my trip which would include photos - macros of course and how they were taken handheld.

I think we can work out a reasonable rate for macro tutoring ;) :)

Looks promising for the insect shots Scott.
But might be a bit difficult to control the reflections on the pen shots, but if anyone can sort it out I have confidence in you to do it ;)

I am using the pens exactly for that, the reflection. I need to get it to curve around and dissipate and not burn areas out ;)
