I dream of this lens :adoration: I have read it is a brilliant macro lens , better than the 105 micro , but I am sure someone here has one and can give an educated opinion on it ! Btw do you have a battery grip on your D800 and if so how heavy is the grip on its own ?

Yes I have the battery grip but I am unsure of its weight. I have the D4 battery in it which gives me a good amount of shots it also charges fast.
The 200 will be good for the bugs that I cannot get close to. Also I have changed my diffuser set up a little to make it bug friendly and so far it seems to be working.

Looks like a great lens, the only issue I see is that the filter size is too big for my Raynox DCR-250 which I would like to use and would be great on a 200mm lens.

Yes its a big lens, heavy too at 1.6kg. But the performance :tongue-new: .....

Very nice bit of glass Scott,
I went for the Sigma 150mm f2.8 APO Macro DG HSM - I've been happy with it so far, good luck with your new piece of kit...
cheers

I haven't gotten the lens yet and am just wanting input/feedback on it, from what I have read it is a good lens but if anyone has experience with this lens any information would be great.

The 200 f/4 is a very nice hunk of glass that has been around a long time and has a good track record for sharpness and clarity. The long reach is perfect for bugs and tiny critters. That said, it is a huge, heavy lens that does require a good tripod/ballhead to steady. I don't know if you have shot macro before but the slightest amount of vibration is magnified just like everything else in the "world of the tiny". The heavier the lens the more need for a rock-solid platform. You won't be hand-holding this puppy.

Be sure to read some of the reviews here:
Nikon Telephoto AF Micro Nikkor 200mm f/4.0D ED-IF 1989 B&H

While I'm at it I'll throw in another vote for the Sigma 150, affectionately known as the "Bugma". I decided to go with it and have not regretted it. It also has an excellent reputation. Tack sharp, great color, and hundreds less than the 200/f4.

Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens (For Nikon) 106306

A few shots from the "Bugma".

Great shots, I have taken the odd macro with my current 90mm set up. And am just looking for the extra reach at present. Also I want the ability to add my Raynox DCR-250 to the end for the odd closer shot that I may require.
