Starting a new project today

Since the moon will be full tonight. I thought I would photograph it and then every couple of days re-photograph it as it goes through its lunar cycle and composite them all into one image. The weather tonight should be cold and clear, ideal, but we are supposed to get rain for the next few days after that. A New Moon is supposed to be on January 13th so I have about 2 weeks.

Sounds great! :) It will be interesting to see how you put it together - arched line, diagonal, or straight line. At least the temps are probably warmer where you are located. Around here we are below freezing at night.

Here is installment 1. Cold and clear mild (52º) tonight, but rain is on the way so it may not be until Sunday before I get another shot at it, when 80% of the moon will be visible. Taken using my standard "moon" setup; D500, 600mm f/4 ED-IF AIS Nikkor and TC-300 2x.

Cool project! Hope you work out a system as you get near the new phase. The moon will be mostly on the horizon around twilight or in daylight then.

Great start to an interesting project. However, if you really want to add to your challenge, you should do it for a complete lunar month (about 29.5 days) and get a display from full moon to next full moon rather than just full moon to new moon.

That is a great idea. I took the moon at 70% last night (actually this morning around 1:30. I now have it at 100%, 90%, 80% and 70% +/-

Up to day 6 but raining tonight so there will be a "hole" in my sequence. Oh well, not like I can do anything about it.

If I were to do this also, I think I would do a full lunar cycle with the phases arranged in a circle. Then I would photograph a globe lit low-key and have that in the middle of the circle.
