Did you get a shot of the blood moon.

I managed a to shoot the transition to the Blood Moon, then the moon went down behind the trees.
Not thrilled with my moon focusing skills
Shot with a vintage Tamron 200-400 F/5.6 on a D610, tripod mounted.
ISO some at 1600, some at 2400
F/10 (for most)
Spot metering set on the moon. checked spot on moon in live view.
Aperture priority set duration, up to 4 seconds.
AF to get focus (used live view enlarged) then switched to MF mode to prevent focus change (checked a few times on AF to ensure continued focus) - did try manually focusing but could not get any better than the AF.
It was about minus 12 out there, froze my fingers. Started at 4:15 a.m. finished close to 7:00 a.m.
Have tried moon shots before, this is my best so far, but obviously still need to work on it yet.

This first one is well pumped up in Corel PSPX7

Anyone know what happened here - I have a few shots like this with a line of black dots across the moon??

Great shots, wonder if it was a plane?

I decided I would sleep through this one seeing as I could not go anywhere for a great shot.

"It's a bird, it's a plane, it's super blur"

I didn't plan on this, knew it was coming but went to bed and didn't set the alarm - but up at 4:00 a.m. looking out the bathroom window and saw the bright moon and said to myself "Why not?" Got my gear and stepped outside my back door. I live about 3 hours North of the nearest urban area so clear skys are common. But it was cold. Once the tripod was set up I could step out, shoot three images (bracketed to be sure about exposure) then back inside. Out again two or three minutes later, three more, in and out, in and out. Got the WD40 for the door (wife was still annoyed). Cooked up some hot chocolate. Another batch of shots. and then because I was using live view I burned through the battery. Bring it in, swap out the battery and take outside set up again, more shots. .... in and out from 4:00 a.m. to almost 7:00 a.m.

I had plans on getting my first moon shots with my Tamron 150-600,
but it was too cloudy, so I just went to bed instead Oz.
I am glad others were more fortunate than I.

Anyone have any idea what was up with that aberration on my moon shots?
It was only in images from 5:32 to 5:36 a.m.
_DSC7957-Blood Moon-0051.jpg_DSC7960-Blood Moon-0050.jpg_DSC7963-Blood Moon-0049.jpg_DSC7966-Blood Moon-0048.jpg_DSC7969-Blood Moon-0047.jpg_DSC7972-Blood Moon-0046.jpg

These are the images in sequence - the aberration does not appear in one, but in all the others? In the first three it seems to be moving up with each image. The fifth one looks different and the last one it is barely there. My first image (I kept on my PC) of the Blood Moon series is #7899 and the last was 8189 That's 290 images - these are 7957 - 7972. Images before and after do not have anything like this? Someone knows what this is - "the truth is out there".

apr 4,2015 eclipse collagewatermark.jpgThis was my first time shooting an eclipse and creating a collage. I used the d5000 with a 300mm+1.4 teleconverter=420mm at f/4 iso 100 and ss of 1/1600 on a tripod...from my suburban front yard

Thanks....I stand corrected and forgot about the fx lens on a dx body fl adjustment.it was an fx 300mm f/2.8 lens withe a 1.4x teleconveter so that dropped me to f/4, 420mm plus the 1.4 crop factor of the aps-c sensor soooo......all that being said maybe roughly 600mm????.... thanks for catching that

I'm not sure that I was right about that. I have a D5100 and have both a FX 300mm and a DX 300mm lens - the FX lens on the camera is a 450 on the cropped framed camera, but I think if the lens says "DX" then they have already factored in the crop factor into the lens - but I might be wrong about that? - Someone who understands this better please chime in.

Straight from the nikon support websiteDX format
All lenses designated as DX type can be used with DX format digital SLR cameras. Many Nikkor lenses designed for FX or 35mm [135] film formats can also be used with DX format digital SLR cameras. The effect of using a Nikkor lens on a DX format camera will produce a magnification of the focal length of the lens by a factor of 1.5x (eg. a 50mm lens will produce the equivilant of a 75mm focal length).
