Milky Way at the Beach

This image is actually a composite of two images, both taken from the same vantage point with the 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5 Fisheye Nikkor @ 15mm. The Milky Way was 30 sec @ f/4 @ ISO 4000, the house 6 sec @ f/4 @ ISO 1250

Can you describe any of the processing details with us?

I actually reworked it because I wanted to bring out more details in the foreground.

The exposure difference between the Milky Way and the beach with the house in it was about 5 EV. The exposure for the Milky Way was 30 sec @ f/4.5 at ISO 3200. The exposure for the house was 8 sec @ f/4.5 at ISO 1250. I then composited the two images in Photoshop. I first opened the image of the Milky Way and then opened the image of the house. I merged the image of the house into the image of the milky way so it became a separate layer. I converted the house layer into a layer mask and then used the paint brush (with black selected) and "painted out" the detail of the sky so that the only thing that was left was the house and beach. Pretty basic Photoshop layer stuff.
