    Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire

    Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire
I mentioned in my introduction thread that I live in Nottinghamshire but originate from Derbyshire. We are surrounded by scenery in quite a few forms, some of which is countryside, some old railway tracks, strolls to while away the time. Its home!

I'll start this thread with a walk which we did today around a country park called Vicar Water set around an old mining community in Clipstone. Was nice to get out!

About four miles from home, we have the rather imposing Hardwick Hall

Surrounded by walks, lakes and set on top of a hillside, I can understand why Bess of Hardwick (Cavendish) built her home there!

These few are taken close to us in Huthwaite, at the moment we live close by an old Colliery, an old railway ran from here towards the main line around five miles away. Its been turned into a cycle route and country walk.

I've not made any additions to this thread for a few months, but not we're sorted out, I plan to bring it back into life.

Close by us is Brierley Forest Country Park which, again, is set on a series of old railway lines which ran from Sutton in Ashfield up to Huthwaite, possibly part of a network of railway lines linking collieries.

Its very scenic and has a tea room for a cuppa & a slice of cake

Another favourite of ours is Silverhill Trail, once more set around an old Colliery, Silverhill. The trail itself is along old railway lines that led to Silverhill and then, one of the old spoil heaps has been cleaned up and trees planted on top with a bronze Miner on top, in memory of the workers that grafted away.
Views from the top covering 360' over Notts & Derbyshire. Great on a clear day!

There are plenty of small lakes for Ducks and Swans to swim and live on

And on top, to remember the Coal Miners

Different scenery this time, bit of water! To the south of Derby runs the Trent and Mersey Canal which links the River Trent (Nottingham) to the Mersey near Runcorn I think.

One of our favourite walks is to follow the canal path down to the Trent and walk along the riverbank to Sawley Marina on the way to Nottingham. On a sunny day, the scenery is great!

We'll never tire of going to Hardwick Hall, in around 15 minutes we can be there to see its every changing landscape as the seasons come and go (but it does have a good selection of cakes which helps)!

We last went in early June & the Millers Ponds looked great.
