Nice shots. I wonder if they have WiFi in the church?

LOL, no sir. And I believe they switch their religious "meetings" from home to home. No church. But their religion has evolved like most have. They do use cell phones, use more power equipment in a day than I will in a year, and make jolly quite well with the drink. They still adhere to the "no driving cars" policy. They obviously live in their own world, very close knit, and can come off as a bit rude at times. They are not like they are portrayed in the movies...but who is? LOL Some are quite well off, while others are dirt poor. Around here, woodworking is their livelihood....from cabinetry to home building. And they are good at it. Their work ethic can not be questioned. All in all, not a bad bunch.....just different.

Thanks Don for the compliment!

Thanks for sharing Chris. Some very nice shots and interesting narrative.

Thank you CW. I am definitely no expert on the Amish community, especially behind closed doors, but I have worked around them (as our jobs collide often) for the last almost 30 years. Like I said, good and bad can be found, but you have to admire their steadfastness in a world of constant change. But the changes, particularly in technology, have even gotten a hold of them......they would not survive the business world otherwise. LOL, I'll never forget the time when an Amish worker gave me his cell phone to clear up a work related matter with his father. I have an Aunt who lives in the heart of Amish country nearby, and she will attest to the "partying" that goes on with them. They are not blind, and temptation has to be great for a young Amish person trying to live in "our" world. They are of course given the opportunity to leave the community at a certain age.......either to stay, or leave and be shunned. Whether these practices, and anything I have said, are "universal" through out the Amish nationally, I do not know. I'm sure there are subtle differences, or factions, among them......like any way of life. Anyway, thanks again:)

This is how they shop at Yard Sales here in PA. I have some clients from the community and they try very hard to hang on to the old way but need to adapt to make a living. Farm land continues to disappear.
