Focus stacking

Well thought I would give this a try, so scoured the web, watched a few tutorials on Youtube.

Here are the results. Stitched together in Zerene software(trial version at the moment)

I have used 7 images to create this, and had to soften it up a bit due to there being some spots that are still out of focus. will try more shots another time.

If anyone else does this and has some hints and tips would be appreciated.

focus stacking is one of the great benefits of the digital medium, I am predicting that this function might be built into some future cameras, since the cameras are autofocus, it could easlily do a walk around focus point matrix, taking multiple shots, and then automatically merge in the camera, how cool would that be.

Now it tends to be a manual method, I'll go post one in my gallery of a flower shot that used photo stacking. I just use PS,, and manual layer, and using blend in the portions with the best focus per layer.

I have several images on my project 365 thread and on my photo journal site where I use focus stacking . . . my preferred software is Helicon Focus
I usually use 15-35 images for one image.

Not bad for a 2012 prediction

The focus-stacked shots look great!

As someone who spent some time messing around with macro shooting years ago, the prospect of pretty much unlimited depth of focus is very appealing. But on the other hand, for me, it sort of crosses the line as far as digital manipulation goes.

Does anyone else feel that way, or am I just showing my age/attitude?
