There is a new fishing pier at a Community Park Lake which makes it nice to go out over the water. This guy was paddling his kayak. Initially I posted this first image in a local Facebook group where he was tagged by his friend.

So I got into a conversation with him and posted this second image (which was really taken first). It's a heavy crop. He commented I must have a nice camera because he was pretty far away! Lol. Actually he could probably tell from the angle that this one was taken from when he was far out because he changed direction a little to avoid the pier. In the image above, he was paddling right next to me. It's been pretty rainy the past couple of days that I haven't been out with my D7200--these were taken on my first outing with the new body.

Curious what type of bird this is, Kevin. Do you know? Is it indigenous to your area, or does it fly far away for the colder months?

its a rose breasted grosbeak Cindy. i dont know about its flight path?

Their Spring/Fall migration covers the midwest and whole eastern seaboard. They are summer resident more northerly (Canada/Great Lakes), but can drop down across PA, so you might get lucky Cindy

Thanks Roy, wev, and Kevin. It's an unusual looking bird--unfamiliar to me at least. Maybe one will fly through this area. We've had a bird feeder for decades, and once in a while an unusual bird will stop by. Just haven't seen one like this yet.
