Clean Sensor & Dust Off

I will be going on safari in Tanzania and have read it will be dusty. Currently I have "Clean Image Sensor" set to "Now"--would it be better to set it at "Clean at Off/On"? Going along with that, how often should i engage the "Dust Off Reference Photo"? each morning? periodically throughout the day? with the insertion of a new card?

You might as well set the clean to off/on. It does not really do anything remarkable anyway. I don't know anyone that uses the dust reference thing. I think it only works with Nikon software. I guess if you were going to use it, I would do it as often as you can keep track of, its just a special image file (.ndf) placed on the card.

Thanks--have a similar one, but I didn't think it would help with the sensor

As mentioned... Take the lens off.
Set the menu option to "Mirror Lockup" <--that raises the mirror out of the way, exposing the sensor.
Hold the camera with the open lens/sensor pointing downward. and using the blower aimed upward, blow... dust particle that blow loose should follow the laws of physics and fall downward out of the camera...

Best thing is to be sure you practice good lens changing hygiene by only changing your lens when in a very clean dust free environment... Not while runnin' down a dusty dirt road in the back of an open truck. ;)

Enjoy your trip...

I always carry swabs and cleaning solution, clean it at the end of the day when you're downloading and enjoy, you will probably not find a perfect lens changing environment there so be prepared, plan ahead, no big deal.
