Gloucester Street - timed

I was in Gloucester today and set myself a target of trying to get as many photos in 1 hour as possible that I would be happy with, there were not many "characters" about but I still managed to capture 19 images that I am happy with.

Once again the DF with 24-120 did a great job and despite the size of the combo did not draw attention.

For anyone interested the full set can be seen here - 571 Photography

I like street photography, but I have a difficult time point my lens at people. I have very few of that type of shot in my files.

Thank you all for the comments.

There are a number of street markets that happen each week selling a variety of items from hot food, fresh vegetables (locally grown) and other things so it encourages people to get out.

Street photography is as much about acting naturally and with confidence to get the shot rather than asking where you spoil the moment - if people see me taking their photo I will usually show it to them and offer to send them a copy and this often diffuses any awkward situations, if they ask for it to be deleted then I will oblige but the aim is to capture people being natural in their surroundings and sometimes the results can be very interesting.

I can talk to anybody, but for some reason I get shy when I have my camera. I have have given images like that to only 2 people. My Dad had no issues pointing his camera at people. We have a nice shot of some skin-head flipping him off. ;) I need to find that image.

If you have a compact the try taking street with that and gradually work your way up to a DSLR - Good luck.

I liked all these, except possibly #4, they all tell a story which is the whole point of street photography. Thanks for posting

Thanks Stan,

What was it about#4 you weren't sure about - placement perhaps? I did struggle to get her on her own and not ideally placed - she was moving around a lot setting up the stall.

All the others tell a story with the key elements in the background foreground with the center of the story in the frame. #4 looks like there might be something going out but it out of the frame to the left, where she is apparently going but not taking us. It appears to be a missed shot. There is nothing to clue us in what or if there is a story just ended or beginning. The others all have enough clues in the frame to understand the situation, with the protagonist in the center of the frame.

Here's my Gloucester St on the other side of the world. Unfortunately I took these around lunchtime so a lot of people are having a bite to eat...

The central city is still rebuilding after the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011, but it's getting there slowly
