You Knew it Was Going to Happen: Google Abandons NIK Collection

I thought they already abandoned it when they made it free. Once it doesn't play nice with PS I can always use it as a stand alone. It will be a bit more PIA, as in more steps to my workflow, but I will never abandon NIK. You'll have to pry it out of my cold dead fingers!!
I'll continue to use it at long as possible as well... Control Points are just too good to let go of.

What a shame. Abandoned software should immediately become public domain software and the developers required to make the source code available. In the meantime even more reason to stay with Photoshop CS6.

Google's tendency to pull these kinds of stunts is exactly why I won't consider them seriously for anything business related, except as a search engine. Not too surprised here, we knew it was going to happen when they made it free with no new development, but this just reinforces my negative view of Google.

Its disappointing that there is no long term future with Nik, I use it to some extent on most of the images I post here.
I paid $150 for it a few years back. I dont begrudge paying the money, as I have gotten plenty of use out of it. I am pee'd off though, because now I'll eventually have to find something else, and pay the money for that, and then learn how to use it. First Apple Aperture , now Nik :(
I have noticed a couple of glitches in Viveza over the last few weeks, I guess things will just go downhill from here on.

I have used it as a stand alone, with GIMP and now Photoshop Elements. I like it and probably don't use 1/10 of what can be done with it. I would have probably gone over to ON1 if I had a computer with the needed horsepower to run it. Ha!

I was under the impression they couldn't be used on their own. How do you use them as stand alone?

this

also, those of you who are worried that Nik won't work past CC 2015, i can happily say that it has worked fine for me with CC 2015, 2016 and currently 2017 (v2017.1.0 to be exact) running the latest and greatest Windows 10.

I have a Mac. I will look in the applications and see if I can launch them from there.
I'm not a Mac-user but I belieeeeve you have the option to select a photo/image file using the Mac version of Windows Explorer, I believe it's called "Finder" (?), and then use "Open With" (Silver Efex Pro 64.exe for example) if that helps at all.

Ahhhh haaaaaaaa, yes that helped. It put me into applications, but it wouldn't open the NEF ("unsupported file type") I guess I have to convert to jpg first.
Thanks, buddy.

Also, once open I can go to "File" and "open images." Never bothered to try since I read it NIK wasn't stand alone.
