How long have you been using Nikon?

My first serious camera was a Minolta SRT-101 back in 1972. I don't consider the Kodak 110 I had before that as a serious camera. It took me about 2 years to outgrow Minolta so I got a used Nikon FTn in 1974 and it has been Nikon exclusively (except for Hasselblad in MF) for the last 43 years.

My first serious 35mm was a Petri 7s, then I moved up to an Ashia Pentax.. that lasted until the '70s and I bought a Yashika GSN which I still use... Nobody bought Nikon's then because they were too expensive...

I bought a Nikon FTn about 1967. I had a Brownie box and then a couple of inexpensive Japanese rangefinders before it. I dreamed of a Zeiss Contrarex SLR back then, its bright viewfinder took your breath away, but when I could finally afford it, the Nikon seemed the right way to go. I had the 24, 50, 105 and 200mm lenses, and the 55mm f/3.5 macro. Hog heaven. It seemed very sophisticated back then, but now it's obvious we've come a long way since.

My dad gave me a brand spanking new Nikon FM back in 1977. I was 10 at that time. My first upgrade was Nikon FA which is the first camera with Matrix Metering and first Nikon with shutter priority. This was back about the time I graduated high school but not a graduation present.

I bought myself a Nikon F4 pretty soon after it was released. It was the first autofocus camera for me and I was hooked. Then F100 and F5. My F5 with the AF-S 28-70/2.8 was a graduation present for myself when I got my Ph.D.

Since then... both D1H and D1X and D100 too, then D2X, D2HS and D200. Then D700 and of course D3X and D3S. I do have a D50 that I can't remember where I got it, as well as a D300 that a friend gave me in exchange for a circular polarizer. And I gave my daughter a D40 when she was 3 years old and she still uses it after 5 years. My latest body is a D4S and I am waiting for a D5S and hopefully a D5X that has been rumored.

I still have all of the above cameras in full working order. I have had others but have sold and given them away as they didn't do what I wanted. For example I have two D1X bodies, one with buffer upgrade and one without, I have had a D2H but after a disappointment upgraded it to another D1H. I had a D300S and a D7000 that I have given away to kids of my friends. I had a D40X that I don't remember buying, and for some odd reason I still have the original box and paraphernalia left.

A lot of bodies and 30+ Nikkor lenses currently. My slowest lens is F/2.8 and I only have 4 zooms as I prefer the speed of fast primes. I love the rendering of a few select older Nikkor primes, for example AF 28/1.4D, AF 85/1.4D and AF 135/2D DC, AI-S 105/1.8 and AI 50/1.8 which has the best bokeh of any 50 mm Nikkor to date. These are lenses that I will probably never "upgrade", since the image qualities are unique.

I sort of inherited Nikon. My Dad sold me his D100 when he was downsizing, which was several years ago. I really didn't know anything about the camera except that it was well taken care of. It was a safe first purchase, and I didn't have to research it. When the D100 pooped out, he gave me a practically new D80 that he didn't need. He used it as a back-up when he was shooting weddings. Then shortly after that he gave me the D300. I prefer the D300.

He retired from photography because his health had gotten bad. At 85 years old he is now pretty much wheelchair bound. However, he has a D90 that he loves and will never part with. He also has a D300 that he fiddles around with now and then.

Since 1978 or 1979; not sure which anymore. My first SLR was the Nikon FM, followed a couple of years later by the FE.

I still own both of them.

It will be 3 years ago in October when I had to retire. Bought a D3200. Then a D7200 a year later, and a D700 this last month. I do enjoy it. Great Therapy.

A couple of years now. I used to shoot Praktica but when going digital got the D3300 - D750 - D810 - D7200.

I sold everything but the D810.

We bought a F90 in 2000 for our 25th Anniversary trip to Scotland. Prior to that I had a variety of cameras, no SLR's. My first 35mm was a Yashica bought in the early 1970's.

I traded in all my Konica SLR gear to get the D70 when it came out. I wanted a Nikon from the time I was about 8 years old and I was using a Kodak Brownie. :)

In 1996 I bought a used f601, being a film camera it didnt get that much use.
Then in 2002 I bought a d100 but never had the time to use it as much as I would have liked.
In 2009 I moved up to the d90 and found a lot more time to enjoy photography and subsequently upgrading to a pair of gripped d7000s then sold one for a gripped d7100, then the other for a gripped d7200.
Earlier this year I sold the d7100 and bought a gripped d500.

Aside from a 126 camera when I was a kid and a 110 pocket camera when I was in high school, my first real camera was a Minolta XG-M 35mm film camera. It only had 2 modes: aperture priority and manual modes. The pocket-sized owner's manual was maybe 30 pages in length but effectively taught the basics of manual mode.

In the later 1990's, I took a darkroom developing class and decided to go with either a Nikon or Canon 35mm. Since two of the people I got to know were both Nikon users and hardily recommended the brand, I bought a Nikon N70. Eventually upgraded to a Nikon N90s...both of which I still own. Got out of photography for many years then went with a couple of D90's. The D600 (which turned into a D610 because of the oil spot issue) came next as well as my D7100 which I seldom use now that I stopped doing the high school drama photos. And my current is the D750.
