When to post in your Blog and/or Gallery vs Forum

Hi Everyone - we're very happy that everyone is posting up their pics and using the Nikonites forum. I just wanted to make sure everyone is aware when your Blog and/or Gallery should be utilized as there are some threads being made in the Forum that would be better suited for the Blog or Gallery.

When to post pictures in your Blog:
    • Your pictures tell a story or mark an event in your photography history
    • Someone else can learn from the pictures you took - you want to tell how something was accomplished with your photography

Pictures should be posted in the Gallery when:
    • You have a series of pictures you want to display to the community
    • You want a repository to easily insert your pictures on other parts of the site

Things should be posted in the Forum when:
    • You have a single picture that you want some constructive criticism on (Photo Critique Forum)
    • You have a question on taking a specific picture
    • Your photo relates to a specific topic being discussed (i.e. a specific lens, camera, photo thread, photo challenge, or used for illustration purposes)
    • You are learning or displaying something over time (like a 365)

Feel free to post a link in the forum to your new Blog or Gallery. Discussion should be kept on the individual blog or gallery.

Re: When to post in your Blog and/or Gallery vs Forum

I'm new to this kinda stuff so I have a question or two (this is the only forum I've ever been involved in). Would a blog be the right spot to post ongoing work, comments, pics, ect.? I tend to start a new thread everytime I get into something (like my new 16-85). The 365 is nice but would a blog be better for posting work and forming a "trail" of my "stuff"?

I'm new too to this Blog thing, should have our 365 been made Blogs? Too late now not going back to change it, just asking. Also are sub folders available in the gallery? Would like to have my gallery organized by subject, instead of dropping them all into one location. Or should your gallery be use for your best of? We are making two trips in the next two weeks one to the Zoo, and one to a Railroad Museum who is going to have a WWII reenactment group there at the same time. (Real excited about this one) I'm expecting to have a lot of photos I'm going to want to share. I'm assuming each would go into a blog, but how would I take advantage of the gallery feature?

I have one thread now going on lightning photos which I'm going to move to a blog if I ever get out again. Having a slow start this year might have a chance to get out tonight, this but will be an on going thing for the next 3 to 4 months.

Ongoing things can stay in the forum since they're about a specific thing related to photography (like a new lens). If you decide to compile those pics over time and write something along the lines of a review of the lens, or how you did something to accomplish a photograph, then it could go in the Blog.

365's are more of a forum thing since they are over time. A blog format would be messy with a new post every day.

You can create a new album in the Glallery, yes. Go to this page and click "Add Album": Gallery Message - Nikonites Gallery The Gallery can be used any way you want really. I tend to put my best of in the main album. You don't necessarily have to upload pics to the Gallery, but if you wanted to you could use that as the repository for the pics that you could later write a blog post about. The blog post could be centered around a series of pics or an entire trip (I did single destinations for my Honeymoon)

You could leave something like that in a thread for now since it's over time and maybe compile later in a Blog

    Re: Candles

I am not much of a blogger, so I uploaded them to my Gallery. I put a password on it in setting it up. Is that for me to only have access to adding and editing, or will that stop others from viewing?

If you go to Gallery Message - Nikonites Gallery click on 'edit' for the album, you can change the album properties.

Ok, I think I just removed the password. Can someone try my gallery and see if I did this right? And thank you.
