from Wikipedia:

Chimping is a colloquial term used in digital photography to describe the habit of checking every photo on the camera display (LCD) immediately after capture.
Some photographers use the term in a derogatory sense to describe the actions of amateur photographers, but the act of reviewing images on-camera is not necessarily frowned upon by professional or experienced photographers.[SUP][1][/SUP]

I guess it comes from hunching over the camera and lifting it towards your face, and bit like a chimp..... I know they are making a point about batteries, but 1 battery, fully charged on my D7100 lasted me over 1200 shots the other week, and it showed only 3/4 drained, so it was good enough for 1500 at a push.

I say if you need more power that badly, buy a second battery!

I think it's more over the sounds we make when Oooo-ing and Aaaa-ing over them. ;)

I found these to be more common sense than "secrets" when I first read them. Perhaps the only odd one is not turning the camera off, something I learned early on.

Turning camera off... maybe camera specific?? I just used my v1 three intensive days, powering down often, was left with 70% charge. While I have left the camera on and been down to 20% charge after a couple of hours at a trade show! (am I crazy?)

Mine stays on all the time it's out of the bag, I remember reading somewhere that it's better that way... Plus if you see a heard of wildebeast running through the town centre or something else that will never happen again, you don't want to be powering on your camera and removing the lens cap.... In fact it was probably Jake who posted it way back when I first joined and started out!
