New Tamron 150-600mm... so NOT happy today

I upgraded and bought a G2 Tamron 150-600mm. Great! Been using it every day since. Picked it up today and put it on the camera and the lens will not extend. Looks like it's back to the shop and off for warranty. So NOT happy :( At least I still have the old one I can use in meantime (for sale but not yet sold)

Damn!!

When I had that lens it would still move with extra force when locked, I thought something was wrong until I realized. It locks/unlocks by sliding the zoom ring back or forwards. I'm figuring you might well already be aware of this, but thought I'd post this just in case. If that's not the issue, then obviously it needs to go to Tamron. I hope the whole Covid thing doesn't slow your repair, if that's what you need.

No Woody, its the same as the G1 and has a small slide lock switch. It has to go 3000km to the Tamron repairer in WA. Its just a pain because I won't get it back for weeks and probably won't have it back for my trip down the coast to my sisters (also an avid photographer) :(

@Vixen Vixen, there is a button lock, but it also locks by sliding the zoom ring. I know because I had one and had this very same issue. Before you mail it off for repair, check this.

From Tamron: The new FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism quickly locks or unlocks the zoom at any position simply by sliding the zoom ring. Photographers can shoot from any angle without the zoom extending unintentionally. Tamron maintains its conventional Zoom Lock switch for use during transport.

If you see a white ring at the zoom, it is locked. Sometimes happens when I carry it cradled on my bent arm -- raise to shoot and What The Heck?

@Vixen. I was swearing at my Sigma because the hood wouldn't stay on. @Roy1961 put it on and twisted it to the locked position.
Me: :shame:
Glad it isn't broken, so you can take it on your trip.

Now I feel stupid. Thanks Woody & Wev. Yep. Zoom ring locked. Phew!!

So glad your issue is resolved. Don't feel stupid, we all have done similar stupid things! At least you will be able to use the lens on your trip. Once again this website comes through.

I'm really glad you hadn't shipped it off for repair! Problems like that can drive a person nuts until they find the answer, and you certainly shouldn't feel stupid. I won't tell you how long it took me to figure out why my viewfinder was blacked out when I had accidentally turned on live view once. LOL. :)
