I got a new lens the other day

Well it is not new, it is probably 20 years old but that is young in AIS Nikkor years. Some of my Nikkors date to the 70's and they are still going strong. I have been contemplating getting another macro lens for a while. The 55mm f/2.8 AIS Micro Nikkor is a superb macro lens but is no good for photographing skittish insects because the closest working distance is only 9" for 1:2. I got a 105mm f/2.8 AIS Micro Nikkor a while ago so I could increase the working distance but it too was often too short to photograph skittish insects. I finally found a good deal on a 200mm f/4 IF AIS Micro Nikkor and snapped at it. The working distance is a little over 2 feet to get to 1:2 and it is internal focus so the lens barrel does not elongate as you focus closer and it has a rotating tripod collar. I have not had the opportunity to photograph any insects with it but I did photograph this Wandering Jew flower the other day. It is insanely sharp at 100% on the D850 and the focusing action is very easy and as smooth as butter. We may get a break in the rain today so I will try to catch some bugs with it.

Another image I took with this 200mm Micro Nikkor. I am really liking this lens! The working distance was about 2 1/2 feet on this wilting Buttercup flower. 20 images focus stacked
