Wedding.... 70-200 on the D500 or D750?

Shooting a wedding soon for a friend. I have a D750 and a D500 and I'm planning to use my 70-200 and 24-70 lenses for the wedding.

Interested to hear what camera you would put the 70-200 on.

I was planning to use the 70-200 on the D500 for candid, longer range type shots and portraits (keeping the 24-70 on the D750 for the wider shots), Just wonder if I am missing out on the abilities of the 70-200 for portraits with the FX D750 if i do this.......

Anyone any thoughts?

Depends on the venue for sure. The wedding I shot two weekends ago I never got anything but the 24-70 on my D810. Larger venues where I needed the 70-200, it was still on FX.

I get your rationale...with those two bodies and lenses, that’s the way I would line them up vs doing the reverse.

I agree with Charlie. My initial reaction was to use FX with both lenses, but that isn't an option for you. The wide angle lens on a DX body may not be wide enough for the smaller areas. For portraits, you might be able get away with 70mm on DX for one person. But I'm not sure it will allow you to get 2 people in the frame together. It will depend upon how much room you have between you and your subject(s). I'd want the 24mm-70mm on FX, definitely.

Wide angle lens will benefit from FX sensor (as FX will give a wider image compared to DX), while the longer lens will be better suited for D500.
