What is the standard warranty in Canada for a new Nikon lense these days. Looking to ship my 80-400 ED VR in for service purchased from an authorized dealer on 09/04/2015. Thanks.

*Repair Update: Nikon is covering it under warranty, no charge. Work order has it listed as a B2, no idea what that means. Nice Christmas gift for sure not having to pay.

Be sure to check out the Canadian website for Nikon to see what they say about warranties. Here in the USA, we get a limited 1 year warranty with an extended 4-year warranty. They suggest registering lenses online. This is Nikon USA's warranty info. Not sure if yours will differ.

Nikkor Lenses
Nikkor lenses come with a standard one year USA limited warranty + a 4 yr. USA Extended Service Coverage for a total of 5 yrs of protection.

* To register your lens for the 4yr extended service coverage, please visit Register your Nikon Product. Keep the Customer copy of the form as well as the original proof of purchase (sales receipt).

I would have but they closed that store and the only one within driving distance is 4 hours total return trip in good traffic. Thanks for the info.

I checked the canadian website as you suggested and it has this: "All NIKKOR and 1 NIKKOR lenses purchased new from an authorized Nikon Canada Inc. reseller include a five-year limited warranty from the date of purchase." I was asking as the slip with my lense states this: "Your Nikon equipment is guaranteed against any manufacturing defects for one full year from the date of purchase".

I just looked up the info on the Canadian Nikon website. It lists 5 years then breaks it down to 1-year with a 4-year extended warranty something like what we have here in the USA. Why they word it that way is something I don't understand. I haven't purchased a new Nikon lens in a while, but I do remember the paper warranty stating it was for 5-years.

The following comes from Nikon Canada. The large bold print is my emphasis. https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/ni/NI_article?articleNo=000001237&configured=1&lang=en_CA

"THIS IS YOUR NIKON CANADA INC. FIVE (5) YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY (VALID IN ALL CANADIAN PROVINCES AND TERRITORIES). YOU MUST PRESENT THE PRODUCT TOGETHER WITH PROOF-OF-PURCHASE (BILL-OF-SALE) TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE.

This Nikon Digital Imaging product is warranted by Nikon Canada Inc. to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of four (4) years after the one (1) year International Limited Warranty from Nikon Corp. has expired (one (1) year after date of purchase). During this 4 year period if this product is found to be defective in material or workmanship, Nikon Canada Inc. or one of its authorized repair facilities will, at Nikon Canada Inc.’s option, either repair or replace this product without charge. Except to the extent restricted or prohibited by law, this warranty is subject to the following limitations and exclusions:

1. This warranty extends to the original consumer purchaser only and is not assignable or transferable.
2. This warranty shall not apply to any product which has been subjected to misuse, alteration, abuse, negligence or accident, general wear and tear or has had its serial number altered or removed.
3. This warranty shall not apply to any defects or damage directly or indirectly caused by the use of unauthorized replacement parts and/or service performed by unauthorized personnel.
4. This warranty shall not apply to any batteries, or damage directly or indirectly caused by batteries."
