The IQ looks good on their web page, but we will have to wait for real world testing by independent testers. Too bad Tamron did not make it a 16-400mm (that extra 2mm on DX is nice to have).

Seems a bit far fetched, but the mega zooms typically do compromise IQ at some point. I'm skeptical as well, but could it be good enough for an all day carry lens when the goal is to not change lenses at all?

Hmmmm. I have shot the 16-300 since it came out. It is an extremely convenient lens, especially when I'm doing my garden tour where swapping out lenses in a crowd and under time constraints is a pain. It can take very good pictures, if you have very good light, but even in marginally low light the IQ and sharpness drop off quickly, especially past 150. If the new version is better, I might be tempted.

My wife refuses to change lenses. The only time she will is when I do it for her. She normally shoots the Nikon 18-200 on her D7100 but when we are shooting birds she uses my 70-300. She complains that she misses the wide end and her long end is not as good as my 150-600 on my D750. This lens would solve all those problems. She is not as picky with IQ as I am so I will be looking into this lens.
