Just bought this lens to pair with my D3300. Excellent, is my opinion. Was never happy with the AF-A version on this camera.

I know a lot of people bag on "kit" lenses - but I think a lot of folks haven't seen the MTF stats on these new AF-P lenses. If you have a body that can use them they are unbelievably sharp.

I agree, they are very sharp shooting lenses. That being said there's a lot more to lens excellence than sharpness; at least in my opinion.

I'm far more concerned with things like distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberration, flaring, color and contrast than I am overall sharpness. Sharpness is nice, I expect there to be some and more is, typically at least, better; but I also think it's over-rated and for me it's a very small part of the overall equation when it comes to determining how good a lens is.

From what I've read thus far the new Af-p lenses seem to do pretty well in all these categories. I merely mentioned sharpness because for a very inexpensive consumer grade lens its scores are frankly almost unbelievable
