Carl Zeiss lens - are they worth?

Im a portrait photographer mostly shooting in studio and been thinking of switching all my Nikon lenses to the new line up of Carl Zeiss to get that medium frame look which I absolutely love by the way. Does anybody use Zeiss manual lens here? What are you thoughts and observations in terms of working in manual mode? And what's your comparison in terms of the image quality coming from Zeiss vs Nikon lens? Are they worth the switch? Any thoughts on that?

I maybe biased as own a couple of Zeiss lenses. I can't say definitively if they are better than Nikon lens but I love to work with manual focus. Somehow I look at the outcome of my shot - I believe they are sharper and Zeiss lenses do show up with a wider Dynamic Range. Again, I could be biased.

Working in manual mode is fine with me, in fact even with an auto focus lens mounted I still find myself turning the focusing ring. Maybe it is because I switch between my RF camera and my Nikon.

Manual focusing gives me a sense of control over what I am composing. I feel a little more involved in the process even though I have to rely on the "in-focus" indicator in the viewfinder. If you ask me, I would say manual focusing is no problem and Zeiss lenses are among the best lenses there are for Nikon body.

Hi,

I think, they don’t trust themselves...
That their lenses are worth their oversized prices.
Concluding the fact they dropped their prices as soon as Sigma came out with their new primes.
(See Nikon Rumors two weeks back…)
Some Carl Zeiss lenses are quite at the top, according to DXO, but those exorbitant prices…
No, not for me. I would buy the Sigma and book a hiking holiday for the same amount…
