New D5500 camera user - question on lenses

I have just entered into the DSLR realm after many years (30 to be exact) from being a photography student in the 80's and want to start shooting seriously again one step at a time. I really am interested in macro, portrait, and some shots of my son rock climbing. The following is what I have in my wish list and I would like to know if this is a good start or if I am missing anything! I have a Nikon D5500 with 18-140mm AF VR, and am thinking of the following two lenses: AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Lens and a Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus. Does this sound like a good all around starter kit for me? Is there anything that I am missing that I should be looking into? I have a limited budget but will be saving to expand

Answering lens questions regarding what is a 'good fit' is rather ambiguous. It's nearly impossible to tell whether certain lenses would work well for you.

The best advice I can give is to go out and shoot with what you have, then decide where the holes are in your gear. Buy glass that fills those holes.

Hello and welcome....................................:).....For your sons rock climbing consider the Nikon AF-S 70-300mm.

When I was shooting with my D7100 by main lens was the 18-140. I backed it up with the 70-300 for when I needed a longer reach. Stick with what you have for now and see what you think you are missing before you buy anymore glass. the 35 and 100 are covered by the 18-140 for now. after shooting for a few months you will see if that is something you need

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.

I agree with Don on holding off on the 35mm. However, since you expressed an interest in Macro, you can't do wrong with the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro.

Welcome to the Forum. When I started I got an 18-250 Sigma... because it seemed like a good place to start. The thing it did for me was help me find were I shot the most and fill the holes... I used Light Room and just started looking where I was shooting. I do not use that Sigma much anymore come to think of it.
