Sigma 24-105 f4 Art

Well I as you may know, I recently bought a Sigma 24-105 f4 Art lens. I had considered a Nikon 24-120, but after hearing and reading great things about the Sigma "Art" range, and owning a 150-600 C already, I decided to give the Art a go.

Now, the lens arrived on Tuesday afternoon, and as luck would have it, my car was booked in for two new tyres on Wednesday morning - This left me in the centre of York, with a new lens and an hour or so to kill.

Before you even fit the lens to the camera, it's impossible not to notice the weight of the lens - It's not prohibitively heavy, but it's certainly "sturdy". Having a good look over the lens, the build quality and finish do appear to be excellent - Easily on a par with my Nikon 70-200 f2.8, which we all know, is a workhorse of a lens!

Here's a handful of shots from my walk around York. I know Mr @Horoscope Fish was interested in seeing some shots and thoughts on the lens, so while these shots have been processed and are not SOOC, if anyone wants the original RAW to analyse, just drop me your email address in an IM and I'll send a copy over. After using the lens for the first hour, I'm more than happy - The shots are sharp, the colours are nice and vivid and there is very little CA... There is some vignetting and pin-cushioning at 24mm, but this is easily sorted in PP.

If anyone is looking for a good, sharp walk around lens then I can't recommend this lens enough - I LOVE it... In fact, I love it so much, that if they make a 70-200 f2.8 Art, I'll be first in line to trade in my Nikon version!

Those are some absolutely great shots with a brand new lens. Sigma is now a serious contender in the lens market and forcing one to think twice about just automatically buying Nikon glass.

These are terrific, Steve! I especially like Station Arches as I really enjoy seeing that type of architecture. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice images and lens! I really liked the 35 1.4 when I was shooting Fx, I wish they made M4/3rds versions! :)

At first I was going to comment on how the first few pics were looking kind of soft, but I did look at them at Flickr and they look fine there. Amazing how much sharpness you lose by posting images on the forum.

Thanks Pete, you do seem to loose some sharpness on the forum - The Minster's "Rose Window" in "Minster in the morning" is much sharper when viewed full size on Flickr, compared to the forum.
