nikkor 18-140

Hi all,
it looks like that the nikon 18-140 is considered one of the best all around zoom lens performing considerably good at the telephoto range.
Question will be if you have some raw files for me to share with portraits so to assess how sharp really this lens is.
I guess in the dx format or the fx format there is nothing close to the 28-200 equivalent with such good performance
Is that true?

The 18-140 is for DX only. It will not work on your D750 properly. It was always my favorite lens when I shot my D7100. Very sharp and really a good range for a walk around lens. The closest thing to a good walk around lens for the FX D750 is the 24-120 I have that lens and it is a all around good performer.

I have two 18-140 which I use with D7100 for weddings...I always find it sharp with lots of ability to crop. For the D810 I have the 28-300.Not supposed to be the sharpest lens but not often used at the 300 end and otherwise fine. I have had two 24-120 and did no like either. My understanding is that you should check the fine focus at 24 70 120 and if you cannot get a consistent figure then send it back to Nikon and you will get a transformed lens back with which you will be very happy.

I want to use the 18-140 for my dx camera and not for my fx camera! Any raw files you can share (also in 'private") to see how much I can crop and use?
Actually mostly interested in the longest zoom range

I thought about the 18-140 during the latest bout of NAS. Played with one at the store. Good lens. No real faults.
Went with a used 24-120 f4 instead. It's a bit better overall and if I ever go full frame I'll be ready.

The possibility of an FX future (and wanting to minimize the lenses I have to keep up with) is what pushed me to the 24-120mm as well. That said, the 18-140 is a good lens if staying in DX is the plan.

can u share some files then? If your long range raw files are "private" can you shoot perhaps some still life?

these are not raw

None of them are. You can not post a RAW file as an image. You would need to download a RAW file from somewhere and open it in LR/PS or some other image program that can open a RAW file.

I will look through my LR library to see if I have any RAW files from this lens and I will post a link to it for you to download.

super great! I think what I saw is that sometimes the camera does not acquire focus very precisely. Otherwise if focus is accurate and lens stopped down a tiny bit you can even crop a lot
