Going to try a little experiment. I'm going down to Chattanooga later tonight to do some night shooting. It might be long exposure with tripod or handheld street stuff or maybe both.

I'm going to take only one lens with me. Normally I would take my 24-120mm f/4 lens for this, but I'm putting up a poll to see what others would want to see me shoot with.

I'm putting up 3 choices

Nikon 50mm 1.8D
Nikon 20mm 2.8D
Nikon 24-120mm f/4

I am leaving in about 4 hours, and what ever the final result of the poll is, that is what I'm going to stick to, and take only that lens to shoot with.

I'm not looking to see which lens might be the "proper" one to shoot with, instead which would be the most interesting or challenging.

Since you are shooting at night, the 50mm 1.8 because of speed and sharpness. With a D750 you can do some cropping on a sharp image to make up for lack of zoom.

I'm with the 50mm, too. You have the option to zoom with your feet while allowing more light due to its f-stop. If you had an 85mm f/1.8, that would have been my first choice over a 50mm, but since you don't, the 50mm is my vote.

With the D750 you have all sorts of room for exposure so take the 24-120

This way you are not limited so much. Sometimes the 50mm is just not wide enough and you can't always back up to get the shot. There is a building in the way. Sometimes the 20 is just to wide to get the skyline that is so very far away and cropped it that much just loses to much.
