Looking for a Tamron lens for my D5000 The description for the lens says it's for Nikon cameras. Can one assume that it will fit my D5000. or are their exceptions. Please clarify for me.

Yes... there is a major exception. Focus motor. You need one in the lens if you want auto-focus... the D5000 doesn't have one in the body, so the lens needs one. NOT all lenses have one. If it doesn't, then you will only have a manual focus combination.

To elaborate a little more on what Fred said, you want the focus motor to be in the lens, and Nikon lists those lenses as AF-S.

An AF-D or simply an AF lens by Nikon won't include the motor. Not sure how the other manufacturers designate their own lenses.

The lens I'm looking at is the Tamron Auto Focus 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens with Built In Motor for Nikon SLR (Model A17NII) I'd send you a link but stupidity in lens also translates into computers. Thanks Ken
