So christmas is around the corner and ill be getting a lens for it most likely in the sales (im a big boy now i can live without opening something on the day), im still only in the stage of needing a good all-rounder really.
Ive got a d5300 with kit lens and im thinking on either 18-140 nikon, 18-200 nikon, 18-300 nikon, or as i have the 18-55mm starting at around 55m - whichever, i don't have the funds for top gear and i am open to other makes like Tamron, Sigma etc, and id love something with an f2.8 - but i know that does push the price up though, im open to top quality used also with that in mind.

what can you guys (and gals) recommend?

thanks.

Without knowing specifically what you like too shoot, and on the more conservative end of the price spectrum, I would suggest the Nikon 18-140mm.

A bit higher end of the price spectrum, without getting nutty, the Nikon 24-120mm.

I think this is sound advice. I asked this question myself and ended up with the 16~85 and it pretty much stays on my camera.

Gotta love those TPB's.

I would recommend the 18-140mm just because it is a very reasonably priced lens that seems to be pretty popular for DX users! :)

I generally do macro and walk about point n shoot, I'd like a 500 mm but I wouldn't get the use out of it tbh at the min, personal I'm edging towards the 18-140, but I'll check the 16-85 also
Thanks..

Hdew are doing the 18-140 for £205 - this is a "white box" lens so will not have a Nikon warranty. I recently bought one from them and have no complaints; they seem very easy to deal with.:encouragement:
