I searched to find out if there is already a thread about this but didn't find any. So I'll start. I have D7100 and I consider the following as my trinity:

Nikon 10-24 f/3.5-4.5 af-s dx g ed
Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro HSM
Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR

Well....I'm missing one lens from having the newest Holy Trinity.....eventually, I'll have to buy the 24-70 f/2.8 to complete it. For now I guess I fill that void with my 18-140, my 50 mm 1.8, and the 55-300 mm. One day I hope to have all 3 of the Trinity.

I call mine the "Unholy Trinity" since they're all "darker"...

16-35mm f/4G
24-120mm f/4G
70-200mm f/4G

And I'm sorry, Rocketman, you can't have 4 lenses in a "Trinity"!! ;)

My FX Trinity is:

Nikon 16-35/4
Nikon 50/1.8
Nikon 80/400VR

My DX Trinity is:

Tokina 12-24/4
Nikon 35/1.8
Nikon 55-200VR

........with other supporting cast members appearing from time to time.

Nikkor 17-35/2.8D
Nikkor 50/1.8D
Nikkor 105/2.8D Micro

I'll carry those three, plus a couple TCs for the 105 if I need more FL, and a 52/52 reversing ring so I can reverse the 50 on the 105 and shoot macros from 1.7:1 down to 3.2:1.

I have

16-35 F4
24-120 F4
70-200 2.8 vrii

I find the F4 lenses met my requirements better and were cheaper which was an added bonus. The 70-200 F4 was not out when I got the 2.8 so I never had to give that option any thought. I can't see me changing it as it's not that heavy when you hang it off a Black rapid strap.
